Marchesi Antinori has been dedicated to winemaking for over 26 generations, since Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Florentine Winemaker’s Guild in 1385. The Tenuta Tignanello estate, located in the Chianti Classico area of Tuscany, Italy, is where two of the estate’s most prestigious vineyards, Tignanello and Solaia, are found. The Tignanello wine was a pioneer of the ‘Super Tuscan’ wines and was the first Sangiovese wine to be aged in small oak barrels.
The Tignanello 2001 has a deep ruby-red colour. The wine is a blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc. The nose offers complex aromas of ripe red fruits, cherries, and plums, with additional notes of vanilla, chocolate, and sweet spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and well-structured, with velvety tannins and a long, persistent finish. The wine’s flavour profile includes notes of plum, cassis, sweet herbs, and saddle leather.

The 2001 vintage in Tuscany benefited from an early bud break, followed by warm weather with some showers, which led to a high-quality harvest, especially for the Sangiovese grapes, which were deep in colour and rich in tannins. The Tignanello 2001 vintage is known for its excellent aging potential, displaying depth and structure.
