French Door Estate Winery, located on the Black Sage Bench in Oliver, British Columbia, is a family-owned and operated vineyard established in 2019. Inspired by their travels through Provence, owners Audra and Jason Shull aim to craft wines that embody the elegance and tradition of French winemaking. Under the guidance of consulting winemaker Pascal Madevon, the winery focuses on producing low-intervention wines from sustainably grown grapes, emphasizing a classic old-world French style.

2021 Vintage

The 2021 Hritage is a Bordeaux-style blend comprising Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Syrah, and Petit Verdot. In the glass, it presents a deep, inviting hue. The nose reveals aromas of red cherries and strawberries, complemented by hints of coconut, baking spices, and dried flowers. On the palate, layers of dark red fruits intertwine with notes of tobacco and mint, enriched by flavours reminiscent of pomegranate juice, cherry pie filling, and pastry. The finish is long and earthy, leaving a lasting impression. This wine is medium to full-bodied, showcasing a harmonious balance between its fruit-forward character and structured tannins. While approachable now, it also possesses the potential for graceful aging over the next 57 years.

Accolades

As of March 2025, specific accolades for the 2021 Heritage have not been published. However, previous vintages have received notable praise.
