From the heart of Tuscanys Maremma region, Castello di Montepo is the historic estate of Jacopo Biondi Santi, heir to the family credited with creating Brunello di Montalcino. The estate is dedicated to preserving the unique Sangiovese Grosso BBS11 clone, producing wines that showcase both tradition and innovation. Poggio Ferro is sourced from a distinctive south-facing vineyard known for its iron-rich soils, giving the wine remarkable character and depth.
This 100% Sangiovese reveals a deep ruby colour with brilliant clarity. The nose is layered with aromas of red cherries, pomegranate, rose petals, and hints of blood orange, framed by subtle cocoa and wild herb undertones. On the palate, the wine is powerful yet elegant, offering finely grained, velvety tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, persistent finish. Structured and complex, it demonstrates the precision and strength typical of the estates cru wines.
The bold structure and vibrant acidity make this wine a superb match for Tuscan classics such as bistecca alla fiorentina, wild boar rag, or roasted lamb with rosemary. Mature cheeses like pecorino stagionato also highlight its complexity.
