Castello di Montep is the historic estate of Jacopo Biondi Santi, heir to the family that created Brunello di Montalcino. The winery is renowned for its dedication to the BBS11 clone of Sangiovese Grosso, a unique heritage passed down through generations. From its clay-marl soils, the estate produces wines that combine tradition with a modern sense of elegance and power.
It presents a deep ruby hue with garnet reflections. On the nose, it unfolds layers of blackberry, black cherry, cassis, and red currant, interwoven with notes of tobacco, tea leaves, licorice, and Mediterranean herbs. The palate is dense and structured, showing vibrant acidity and firm tannins that frame flavours of dark berries, sage, cardamom, and a touch of citrus peel. A mineral backbone and refined oak integration provide both freshness and complexity. The finish is long and persistent, leaving impressions of fruit, spice, and earth.
This powerful Sangiovese pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, roasted lamb, or game meats. It also complements aged pecorino and Parmigiano-Reggiano.
