From Central Otago, New Zealand, this Pinot Noir is a blend of fruit sourced from Burn Cottages own biodynamically farmed vineyard in Lowburn, as well as parcels from Sauvage and Luna/Sappa vineyards in Bannockburn. The wine takes its name from a historic water channel, or race, that flows through the property, connecting the estate to the lands history and natural environment.
Moonlight Race Pinot Noir offers a medium-bodied, elegant expression of Central Otago. Aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, and blackberry are lifted by floral and herbal notes of thyme and violet. Subtle layers of forest floor, spice, and mineral freshness add complexity. The palate is silky, with fine, powdery tannins and bright acidity that lead to a graceful, persistent finish.
Crafted according to Burn Cottages biodynamic philosophy, the wine is made with indigenous yeast fermentation and spends around 12 months in French oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of new oak. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered to maintain purity, texture, and a true sense of place.
This Pinot Noirs layered character makes it an excellent companion for duck with cherry glaze, venison with herbs, wild mushroom dishes, or Peking duck. Its balance of fruit and savoury spice also allows it to shine on its own after a little aeration.
