The 2023 Paaeli Kaz Dalar “6N” is a vibrant, low-alcohol red made exclusively from Karasakz, an ancient native grape indigenous to Turkey’s Kaz Dalar (Mount Ida) region in the Biga Peninsula of the Aegean coast.
The name “6N” references the license plate code for this particular region, rooting the wine firmly in its homeland.
The vineyards lie on limestone and clay soils at elevations benefiting from cool Aegean breezes, ensuring a slow ripening season that protects the grapes natural acidity and aromatic brightness. Dry-farmed and managed sustainably, these vines yield small, flavorful berries ideal for a bright, food-friendly red.
Harvested early to preserve freshness, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks, with no oak aging, emphasizing fruit purity and immediate drinkability. The result is a light-bodied, fresh style of red wine with red berry fruit, hints of dried thyme and oregano, and a touch of spice, underpinned by a lively, saline-tinged minerality.
Perfect served slightly chilled, it pairs beautifully with grilled lamb skewers, tomato-based meze, roasted vegetables, or charcuterie platters.
Paaeli was founded in 2000 by Seyit Karagzoglu, a visionary figure passionate about reviving indigenous Turkish grapes and showcasing the diversity of Turkeys terroirs. Based near Izmir, Paaeli is deeply committed to low-intervention farming, minimal cellar manipulation, and crafting wines that reflect authentic regional character.
Paaelis focus on grapes like Karasakz, alkaras, and Yapncak has positioned it as a pioneer in the modern Turkish wine renaissance. The estates approachfavoring old vines, hand-harvesting, and natural fermentsensures that each wine, like the “6N,” tells a genuine story of its land and traditions.
Paaelis wines are celebrated for their energy, clarity, and strong sense of place, making them favorites among sommeliers and wine explorers seeking something both ancient and excitingly new.
