The Taillepieds vineyard, named for its steep, rocky incline (“cut feet”), is one of Volnays highest and most mineral-rich Premier Crus. The soils are thin, gravelly limestone with excellent drainage, producing wines of tension, transparency, and long aging potential. Domaine Marquis dAngervilles parcel sits high on the slope and consistently delivers one of the domaines most structured and intellectual expressions of Pinot Noir.
The 2023 vintage offered moderate conditions and long hang times, yielding fruit with vibrant acidity, fine tannins, and detailed aromatic profiles. Harvested by hand and fermented with native yeasts, the wine was aged in French oak barrels (approximately 20% new) for 1214 months, with no fining or filtrationpreserving purity and structure.
In the glass, the 2023 Taillepieds opens slowly with aromas of tart red berries, wet stone, dried rose, and forest floor. The palate is taut and vertical, driven by stony minerality and luminous acidity. Less plush than Champans and more angular than Caillerets, Taillepieds demands cellaring and rewards patience.
