Sourced from a single vineyard in Chacayes, located at 1,100 meters in the Uco Valleys upper reaches, this cuve is composed of 85% Cabernet Franc with small additions of Malbec and other Bordeaux varieties. The soils are poor and alluvial, rich in limestone, which contributes to the wines lift and structural clarity. The 2017 vintage was low-yielding and dry, resulting in exceptional concentration. Fermented with native yeasts and aged for 15 months in old oak foudres, the wine showcases a restrained oak profile and expressive varietal character. Crafted in a style reminiscent of Right Bank Bordeaux, yet unmistakably Andean in soul, it pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, mushroom dishes, or aged cheeses.
El Enemigo is a joint project between winemaker Alejandro Vigil (chief winemaker at Catena Zapata) and historian Adrianna Catena, founded on the idea of honoring tradition while challenging convention. The name El Enemigo (The Enemy) symbolizes the inner struggle of creation and excellence. Their Gran Enemigo line reflects a deep respect for terroir, particularly high-elevation sites with distinct soil profiles. With a focus on Cabernet Franc and nuanced blends, the winery is known for crafting wines of tension, elegance, and longevity. Chacayes, one of their standout crus, consistently demonstrates the potential of the Uco Valley to produce world-class, site-driven reds.
