The 2017 Chteau Mouton-Rothschild is composed of a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot, with Cabernet Sauvignon playing the dominant role in the blend, providing the wine with structure and aging potential. The grapes were hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure only the best fruit was used in the final blend. After fermentation, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barrel, followed by 18 months of aging in 100% new French oak barrels. The 2017 vintage was marked by a challenging growing season, with a cool, wet spring followed by a warm summer. However, the weather conditions improved during the harvest, allowing the grapes to reach full ripeness and balance. The result is a wine that, while more restrained than some other recent vintages, showcases the classic Mouton-Rothschild elegance and complexity, with a beautiful expression of its Pauillac origins.
Chteau Mouton-Rothschild, a Premier Grand Cru Class in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, is one of the most prestigious and revered estates in the world. Situated in the Pauillac appellation, Mouton-Rothschild is known for producing wines that epitomize both power and finesse, with a remarkable ability to age gracefully over time. The estate has been a family-run operation since it was acquired by Baron Philippe de Rothschild in 1922, and today it is led by his descendants, under the guidance of Philippe Dhalluin. The estates vineyards are meticulously managed, with a focus on sustainability and high-quality viticulture, ensuring that each vintage reflects the unique terroir of Pauillac. Mouton-Rothschild is also renowned for its artistic legacy, with world-famous artists such as Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, and Salvador Dal having created the iconic labels for the wines. Chteau Mouton-Rothschild remains a benchmark for excellence in Bordeaux, producing wines that are some of the most sought-after and collectible in the world.
