ABOUT THIS WINE
Chteau Loville Poyferr is a Second Classified Growth of Saint-Julien.
A blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The 2017 Chateau Leoville-Poyferre saw malolactic in barrels and spent 18 months in 80% new French oak
Frost caused significant damage early on, but those who mitigated losses were rewarded with richer, riper fruit. While some wines will be suited for early drinking, the best examples should age well with proper care.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Owned by the Cuvelier family since 1920, Loville Poyferrshares a building with its perhaps better-known cousin Loville Las Cases, though the two estates are markedly different. Poyferrs vineyard lies across the road, with its 148 acres of vines situated on more clay-based soils that result in a broad, fleshy wine. Sara Cuvelier is the current generation to head the estate, taking over from her cousin Didier during the 2018 vintage. Winemaker Isabelle Davin and consultant Michel Rolland crafted Poyferrs modern-stylegrand vinfrom a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, all aged in 80 percent new oak.
