ABOUT THIS WINE
Chteau Rayas is renowned for producing wines exclusively from Grenache grapes. The 2012 Chteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge is crafted from 100% Grenache, sourced from the estate’s 13-hectare vineyard. The vineyard features north-facing vines planted in sandy soils, which contribute to the wine’s finesse and aromatic complexity. The grapes are whole-bunch pressed and vinified in concrete tanks, with fermentation periods typically lasting no more than two weeks. The wine is then aged in 450-liter double-pice oak casks, an uncommon practice in the region.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Founded in 1880 by Albert Reynaud, Chteau Rayas has been managed by the Reynaud family for generations. The estate is situated in the Chteauneuf-du-Pape appellation of the Rhne Valley, France. Unlike many producers in the region who blend multiple grape varieties, Chteau Rayas focuses solely on Grenache for its red wines. The estate’s secluded location near Courthzon and its unique terroir contribute to the distinctive, savory, and complex signature of its wines, making them some of the most coveted in the appellation.
