Clos Fourtet is a Classified Grand Cru of Saint-Emillion.
Ablend of 87% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc aged for 18 months in 60% new French oak barrels.
Clos Fourtet leaves nature to express itself, striving to keep its purity intact. They harvest carefully by hand, bringing in the grapes in small baskets so as to preserve their integrity. Then, they carry out the minimum, softest extraction necessary to reveal our terroirs identity.Every year the aging of the wine is different: they adapt the amount of new oak barrels that we use to reflect the structural potential of each vintage. Throughout this lengthy process, they limit handling of the wine and protect the fruit from oxidation.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
For centuries, the ancient Camp Fortet (small fort)with itsmodest profilehas overlooked the historic town of Saint-milion, peacefully surveying it in times of prosperity, protecting it in times of war. The 20-hectare vineyard forms a single plot, planted upon the highest slopes of Western Saint-milion. Constructed from the very rock upon which it stands, the chateau and its surrounding wall (hence clos)are intimate and unassuming. Ever since the beginning of the classification in1956, Clos Fourtet has been a member of the elite Premiers Grands Crus Classs of Saint-milion.
Philippe Cuvelier acquired Clos Fourtet in 2001. He entrusts the running of the estate to his son Matthieu. Together they invest and oversee thoughtful and progressive change, constantly striving for excellence. Passionate about the land, they choose to use organic and biodynamic treatment methods in the vineyard. The estate is looked after with care and love, for it is a jewel that will eventually be passed down to future generations.
