The Volcanic Estate Cabernet is Obsidian Ridge Vineyard’s signature wine. The wine embodies the complexity and wildness of the site. The extreme climate, altitude, and volcanics of the site result a wine with distinct volcanic characterintense color, aroma and flavor, with a freshness and minerality that typifies the site.
A blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Malbec, 2% Petite Sirah, 1% Petit Verdot, 1% Syrah. Aged for 15 months in40% New Kdr barrels
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Founded in 1973 by Nicholas Molnar, the Poseidon Vineyard began on the cool southern edge of Napa Carneros. There, he pioneered Chardonnay and Pinot Noir farming for Napas top sparkling wine houses.Years later, Michael Terrien, Peter Molnar, and Arpad Molnar ventured north to plant a vineyard on an abandoned walnut orchard half a mile highonly to discover they were farming atop a volcano of pure obsidian, thus founding Obsidian Ridge in Red Hills Lake County. The extreme climate and volcanic soils now shape a truly distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon. Winemaker Alex Beloz has crafted wines for over a decade, aging them in Tokaj oak barrels made by Kdr Hungary. The winemakers believe wine must promote healthy ecosystems, which is why Obisidian wines are farmed sustainably. Both Obsidian Ridge and Poseidon Vineyards are Certified California Sustainable.
