Chteau Thivins Cte de Brouilly is a flagship wine sourced from steep, south-facing vineyards on Mont Brouillys blue volcanic rock soils, which impart distinct mineral drive and tension. The 2023 vintage was shaped by a relatively mild growing season with excellent diurnal shifts, resulting in wines of clarity, moderate alcohol, and expressive aromatics.
Grapes are hand-harvested from 4050-year-old Gamay vines and fermented via traditional semi-carbonic maceration in large oak vats. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for 68 months in large foudres, preserving freshness while enhancing texture. Farming is lutte raisonne (sustainable), with an increasing move toward organics and biodiversity in the vineyards.
Elegant yet grounded, this cru Beaujolais pairs beautifully with charcuterie, roast chicken, grilled salmon, or mushroom-based dishes. It can be enjoyed young for its vibrant fruit or aged 57 years for added nuance.
Chteau Thivin, established in 1877 and currently helmed by Claude and Evelyne Geoffray along with their son Claude-Edouard, is the oldest estate on Mont Brouilly and one of Beaujolais’ most iconic domaines. The estate has long championed Cte de Brouilly as a site capable of producing structured, age-worthy wines that rival more prestigious appellations in complexity.
Committed to tradition and terroir, Thivin practices sustainable viticulture with deep respect for the volcanic soils and steep inclines that define their vineyards. In the cellar, the Geoffrays favor classic methods that highlight freshness, purity, and finesse, avoiding excessive extraction or oak influence.
Their winesnever flashyare admired for their balance, longevity, and unwavering sense of place. The 2023 Cte de Brouilly continues this legacy as a refined, mineral-driven expression of one of Beaujolais most distinctive crus.
