ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron is located in Premeaux-Prissey, close to Nuits St. Georges in the Cte de Nuits region of Burgundy. Sophie Meunier, now a fourthgeneration Burgundian landowner, and her husband Alain, took over the Domaine from her father, Jean-Jacques, after he fell ill in the mid 1980s. After studying winemaking together, Sophie and Alain began to quickly center in on what they wanted to do with their newly inherited property. The Meuniers are firm believers that good wine begins in the vineyard with healthy, sustainably-grown vines. In 1988 they attended a lecture given by Claude Bourguignon, an expert in the microbiology of flora and fauna of soils. Inspired by Claude’s ideas, they began to explore organic viticulture and quickly made the decision to move in this direction with their vineyards. The Domaine has now been farming organically and sustainably since 1989 and some of the Confuron vineyards are ploughed by horse to further maintain soil health. The Domaine owns eight hectares of vines with plots in twelve appellations in the Cte de Nuits. Included in their holdings are vines in the prestigious Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and the Grand Crus of Clos de Vougeot and Romane-Saint-Vivant. At 80-years of age, the Confuron’s plot in Chambolle-Musigny is the oldest in the Domaine and Alain has consistently ploughed it by horse since 2003. The cellar was completely updated in 1989 and is outfitted with the latest technology, including pneumatic presses and temperature-controlled fermentation systems. The wines generally age for 15-18 months in barriques with the Premier Crus seeing up to 70% new oak and the Grand Crus up to 100% new oak. Highly sought after worldwide, Alain and Sophie’s exquisite wines showcase the best of Burgundy through their meticulous representation of terroir and careful winemaking practices.
