ABOUT THIS WINE
Chateau Rauzan-Segla is a Second Classified Growth of Margaux
A Blend of 63 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 33 % Merlot, 3 % Petit Verdot, 1 % Cabernet Franc. Aged for 18 months with 65% new barrels.
Chteau Rauzan-Sglas grand vin is crafted with infinite care and its grapes sourced from the main vineyards where the finest and, in particular, the old Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines grow in perfectly worked soils. When the Cabernet Franc and the Petit Verdot are included in the blend, they add yet another layer of complexity to the wine. The vinification work is dictated by their quest for precision. The use of small vats enables us to create a number of batches corresponding to the increasingly carefully- demarcated plots.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Rauzan-Seglas name attests to a history that has been deeply rooted in the Medoc for three and a half centuries. When he gave his name to the property he founded, Pierre de Rauzan assured it its place in history.
1661, the year in which Pierre de Rauzan bought the noble house of Gassies, marks the beginning of the history of what would become the Rauzan-Segla cru. He acquired the first parcels of vines near the house and founded his own estate.
The chateau owes this ranking to its immense popularity among wine lovers. It reflects the love and respect that Rauzan-Segla wines have inspired ever since the chateau was founded.
This classification has played an important role in structuring the Bordeaux grands crus market from 1855 to this day. It has become a reference. For the chateaux, it creates an obligation and a responsibility to be worthy, or more than worthy, of the classification conferred.
