These old zinfandel vines on the Benito Dusi Ranch were planted in the 1920s. Despite a dry, warm growing season , a healthy crop was at optimal ripeness for a late August harvest, just ahead of the record heat wave. Fifteen months in oak, rich, exotic fruit, fresh acidity, and a long finish make it enjoyable on release. It will develop beautifully over the next seven or eight years. Barrel regimen-95% air-dried American oak barrels, 5% French oak barrels (10% new, 10% one year old, 64% two years old, and 16% three years old).

In 1962, Ridge made its first Monte Bello, and two years later its first zinfandel. Since that time, Ridge has championed single-vineyard winemaking, searching California for those rare and exceptional vineyards where climate, soil, and variety are ideally matched.

Relying on the natural yeast, they let the terroir define the wine and make their winemaking decisions based upon taste, not a recipe. They are committed to sustainability and organic farming and are the largest grower of organically certified grapes in Sonoma County and the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation.
