The 1990 vintage of Chteau Lafite-Rothschild was made from a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot. Each variety was carefully hand-harvested and rigorously sorted before fermentation. The wine underwent maceration in stainless-steel vats, followed by aging for 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop its characteristic balance of fruit, oak, and structure. The 1990 vintage was marked by near-perfect weather conditions throughout the growing season, with a warm, dry summer that allowed the grapes to ripen fully and evenly. This produced a wine with great concentration, complexity, and finessequalities that will continue to evolve and mature for decades.
