Gaja’s ‘Darmagi’ is an iconic Cabernet Sauvignon from the Langhe region in Piedmont, Italy. The name, meaning “what a pity” in the Piedmontese dialect, was inspired by Giovanni Gaja’s reaction to planting Bordeaux varietals in an area traditionally reserved for Nebbiolo. Introduced in the late 1970s, ‘Darmagi’ represents Angelo Gajas innovative approach to winemaking and his vision to elevate the expression of international varieties in Italy.
The 2019 vintage of ‘Darmagi’ is expected to develop beautifully with age and can be enjoyed from 2024 through 2040.
Decant for at least one hour to allow the wine to open up fully. Serve at a temperature of 16-18C (60-64F). This wine pairs excellently with roasted meats, hearty stews, and aged cheeses.
